Millennials and Gen Z

Hi class!

I've done some research on the definitions for Millennials and Gen Z and found this article published by Pew Research Center:

Defining generations: Where Millennials end and Generation Z begins

As you guys explained in class, there was no scientific method used for identifying when Gen Z begins. However, according to the definitions of Pew Research Center, Millennials are those born between 1986-1996 while Gen Zers are those born between 1997 and 2012 (Baby Boomers, born between 1946-1964, are the only generation that was officially labeled by the US Census Bureau!). As mentioned in class today, this article also suggests how most Millennials remember the 9/11 terror whereas most Gen Z people barely remember the event. I recall vividly watching the news coverage of 9/11, as well as the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Like what we discussed today in class regarding the validity of labeling "digital natives," the author also highlights that "generations themselves are inherently diverse and complex groups, not simple caricatures" and that "generations are a lens through which to understand societal change, rather than a label with which to oversimplify differences between groups."

Hope you guys find the article interesting!
